The Meaning of IUM CHaPaRIM (Yom Kippur) in Ancient Hebrew - "Day of Top-Coverings for Sin"

The Ancient Hebrew phrase "IUM CHaPaRIM" [eeh-oom chapah-reem] (incorrectly known as "Yom Kipurim", "Yom Ha-Kipurim" or "Yom Kippur") means "Day [12 hours] (of) Top-Coverings for Sin".

These top-coverings on the lid of the Ark of the Covenant (Mercy Seat) used to be with animal blood every year and just for the remembrance (not forgiveness) of sin (they were "natural" and AERaNic [Aaronic]). However, the final "spiritual" top-covering on the Heavenly Ark's lid (which the Earthly ark was modelled after) was made with the better blood of the ultimate High Priest IEUESHUO MaSHICH for the forgiveness of ignorant sin once and for all. None of the High Priests before IEUESHUO actually "atoned" (enabled IEUE to forgive) themselves or the people, if they repented. The High Priests only physically covered (sprinkled) the top of the Mercy Seat lid in remembrance of their sins—and in anticipation of their hopeful FUTURE atonement (at-one-ment or at-peace-ment) with IEUE through the MaSHICH. The scapegoat only symbolised their sins being taken away.

Today on IUM CHaPaRIM we are to 1) rest, 2) humble our entire beings (not just appetites) with frown lines (mainly through: fasting for at least 36 hours [12 hours more than our regular daily night-time fasting], and meditating on IEUESHUO's atoning sacrifice and IEUE's future White Throne Judgement), and 3) gather with those of like mind.

Scriptural Passages that Pertain to IUM CHaPaRIM

Here are most, possibly all, of the main passages that discuss the events relating to IUM CHaPaRIM in scripTURE:

1) UIQaRA (Lev) 16:1—34
2) UIQaRA (Lev) 23:26—32
3) BaMaDaBaR (Num) 29:7—11
4) UIQaRA (Lev) 25:8—10 (IUBaL [ika Jubilee] year)
5) SHaMUT (Exo) 30:1—10 (especially verse 10)
6) OBaRIM (Heb) — the whole book but especially chapters 7—10

IUM Means a 12 Hour Day

The Ancient Hebrew word for "day" is IUM [eeh-oom or yoom] (H3117). This is the period of 12 hours of light-time, and not the modern 24 hour day as we know it. These 12 hours are derived from the Ancient Hebrew pictographic definition of the word IUM, and from the word IUM's usage in an abundance of other scripTUREs. For much more evidence see the articles Days Begin at Sunrise and Day of Atonement Starts at Sunrise.

CHaPaRIM Means "Top-Coverings for Sin" in the Abstract (Personal) Sense

CHaPaRIM in IUM CHaPaRIM means "top-coverings for sin": in the personal abstract sense.

The Letters of CHaPaRIM

CHaPaRIM is made up of five Ancient Hebrew letters named: CHaTS-PA-RaSH-ID-MA [chats-pah-rash-eed-mah]. There are two default "a's" between the first three [true, Ancient Hebrew] consonant-letters.

The transliterally equivalent letters of these letters in Modern Jewish Hebrew are: het (NOT kaph)-pe-resh-yod-mem. The word CHaPaRIM has been incorrectly spelled in the Westminster Lengingrad Codex (WLC) with a kaph at the start to make KaPaRIM; there should be a het at the start of the word (more on this later).

Where the Phrase IUM KaPaRIM (the Misspelled IUM CHaPaRIM) is Found in ScripTURE

The exact phrase "IUM [eeh-oom or yoom] (day [of]) KaPaRIM [kapah-reem]"—with an incorrect kaph at the start—is found only once in the WLC, in UIQaRA (ika Leviticus):

Young's Literal Translation (YLT) [AH] UIQaRA (Lev) 23:28 and ye do no work in this self-same day, for it is a DAY OF ATONEMENTS [IUM (H3117) KaPaRIM (H3725)], to make atonement for you, before IEUE your ALEI.

A similar phrase "IUM (day [of]) E [eh] (the) KaPaRIM" is found in these two verses:

YLT [AH] UIQaRA (Lev) 23:27 'Only-on the tenth of this seventh month is a DAY OF ATONEMENTS [IUM (H3117) EKaPaRIM (H3725)]; ye have a holy convocation, and ye have humbled yourselves, and have brought near a fire-offering to IEUE;

YLT [AH] UIQaRA (Lev) 25:9 and thou hast caused a trumpet of shouting to pass over in the seventh month, in the tenth of the month; in the DAY OF THE ATONEMENTS [IUM (H3117) EKaPaRIM (H3725) ye do cause a trumpet to pass over through all your land;

KaPaRIM is Plural of KaPaR

KaPaRIM is plural for the word KaPaR (with the Jewish letters kaph-pe-resh). This is because in Ancient (and Modern Jewish) Hebrew when the letters named ID (eed) (ika yod) and MA [mah] (ika mem) are added as a suffix in a word it makes the word plural in the numerical—or of-its-characteristics—sense (the Ancient Hebrews had two kinds of plural).

In this case the plurality of KaPaRIM is of number because AERaN the High Priest (the High Priest was the only one allowed) was to make multiple KaPaRs (H3722's)—originally "CHaPaRs"—(top-coverings for sin)—for his sin and the sin of the nation of ISHaRaAL (ika Israel). These are described in UIQaRA 16:6, 10—11, 16—18, 20, 24, 27, 30, and 32—34, and 23:28 (all of UIQaRA chapter 16 and 23:26—32 is about IUM CHaPaRIM)—as well as in the New(er) Testament in OBaRIM (ika Hebrews) 5:3, and 9:1—8.

Strong's reference for the singular version KaPaR (kaph-pe-resh) is H3722 and is as follows:

H3722
כּפר
kâphar
kaw-far'
A primitive root; to cover (specifically with bitumen); figuratively to expiate or condone, to placate or cancel: - appease, make (an) atonement, cleanse, disannul, forgive, be merciful, pacify, pardon, to pitch, purge (away), put off, (make) reconcile (-liation).

The Ancient Hebrew Lexicon of the Bible's (AHLB's) reference for Strong's H3722 (the singular version KaPaR) is AHLB#: 2283 (V) and as is as follows:

"K-PR - Cover: [freq. 102] (vf: Paal, Hitpael, Pual, Piel) |kjv: atonement, purge, reconcile, forgive, purge, pacify, mercy, cleanse, disannul, appease, put, pardon, pitch| {str: 3722}"

CHaPaR is Misspelled as KaPaR, because CHaPaR is from the Parent Root CHaP (Cover)

CHaPaR is misspelled as KaPaR in the WLC because the AHLB (in its reference #2283) says that the word KPR comes from the Parent (two letter) Root word CHaP (AHLB#: 1178). This has the Ancient Hebrew letters CHaTS-PA, now known in Jewish Hebrew as "het-pe". The underlined letters "ph" in the quote below are really (in print) picture-letters of an open mouth and tent wall:

"2283)...KPR) ac: Cover co: Lid ab: Atonement: A protective covering to go over something or the covering of a debt or wrong. [from: ph] (eng: cover - with the exchange of the v and p).

"1178)...HhP [CHaP]) ac: Cover co: Cover ab: Innocent ["One whose actions are covered": in H2643]: The pictograph h [picture of a tent wall] is a picture of a wall. The p [pictograph of an open mouth] is a mouth meaning "open". Combined these mean "wall opened". The tent is opened to allow one into its covering for protection. Anyone entering a tent will be protected at all costs by the owner. A secret is something that is covered and hidden. A haven as a place covered over for protection."

CHaP has three meanings: 1) cover (primal concrete), 2) cover (functional action) and 3) innocent (personal abstract).

The ancient Hebrews had three different meanings for each word and the context alone determined what sense the word was being used in—NOT vowel points, or added vowel-letters (as in the case of the word KIPUR [more to come on this soon]).

The English word "cover" (for both a lid and the action of covering) evolved out of the Ancient Hebrew word CHaPaR (AHLB#: 2283); over 90% of English words have a Hebrew origin—for similar words see “Words that are Same in English as Ancient Hebrew.

The Word CHUPE (Chuppah) (Canopy) Also Comes from CHaP (Cover)

CHaP is also the Parent Root word for CHUPE [chooh-peh] (ika "chuppah") which is a canopy, especially used in Hebrew weddings (Strongs #2646; AHLB#: 1178-J [N1]).

There is No Such Phrase as "Yom Kippur" or "IUM KIPUR" in ScripTURE

There is no such phrase as "IUM KaPaR (kaph-pe-resh)" or "IUM KIPUR (kaph-yod-pe-vav-resh)" (where Modern Jews or Messianics get "Yom Kippur" from) in the WLC. This is because this day was for the top-coverings (plural) for sin, not a top-covering (singular) for sin: as Young's Literal Translation (of the Bible) points out with its use of the word "atonements". Also the additional letters (yod and vav) between the three older letters (kaph-pe-resh) (also in the word KIPURIM) are later unnecessary additions to this word (not emphasised in the [albeit listed as adopted (younger) word] entry [AHLB#: 2283 (ed)] of Ancient Hebrew Lexicon of the Bible's [AHLB's] for H3725 [KaPaRIM]).

CHaPaR in IUM CHaPaRIM Means "Top-Covering for Sin" in the Abstract (Personal) Sense

In the case of CHaPaR in IUM CHaPaRIM, CHaP means "cover" in the primal concrete sense. The primal concrete sense is: the physical phenomenon (in space and time) in motion (it's "dynamic") that can be observed with one or more of the five primal physical senses: sight, hearing, touch, smell and taste; a noun.

When the man's head pictograph called RaSH (ika resh) which can mean "top" is added after the Parent Root (two letter) word CHaP we get the (three letter) Child Root word CHaPaR which means (in the primal concrete sense) "cover (on) top", "lid" or "cap".

The English word "cap" (for a protective cover or seal) evolved out of the Ancient Hebrew word CHaP; again, over 90% of English words have a Hebrew origin—for similar words see “Words that are Same in English as Ancient Hebrew.

In the functional action sense CHaPaR means "top-covering", "lidding" or "capping" because top-covering, lidding and capping is what top-covers, lids and caps do. The functional action meaning is: a function or action of (a motion or dynamic of): the primal concrete phenomenon (in this case a top-cover, lid or cap); a verb.

In the personal abstract (Day of Atonement!) sense the word CHaPaR (applied to humans [angels can't be forgiven—OBaRIM (Heb) 2:16 (this verse does not teach the trinity)]) means "top-covering for sin". The personal abstract sense is how the primal concrete phenomenon (in this case, lid or cap) or one of its functional actions (in this case, to cover the top of) applies to: people or higher beings, or their nature; a noun or verb.

The AERaNic (Aaronic) Earthly Top-Coverings of Blood Did Not Take Away Sin—Only IEUESHUO's Heavenly Top-Covering of Blood Did

The High Priest (firstly AERaN [ika Aaron] [Lev 16:2] until the most recent, eternal [Heb 5:6; 6:20; 7:17, 21, 24, 25; 9:12; and 10:12, 14], permanent (Heb 7:24), and better (Heb 7;19, 22; 8:6; 9:23; 10:34; 11:16, 35, 40; and 12:24) One, IEUESHUO MaSHICH [OBaRIM (Heb) 9—10]) literally covered (sprinkled) the top lid of an Ark—with blood, for the ignorant (Heb 5:1—2 and 10:26) sins of AERaN and the people. In the case of IEUESHUO, the blood covered the HEAVENLY Ark—NOT the Earthly one (Heb 9:24)—which was modelled after the Heavenly one: once and for all (Rom 6:10; Heb 7:27, 9:12 and 10:10, 12, and 14) (but that which we should be grateful for continually with praise and good works—Heb 13:15—16):

TS98 [AH] OBaRIM (Heb) 9:24 For MaSHICH HAS NOT ENTERED INTO A SET APART PLACE MADE BY HAND – FIGURES OF THE TRUE – BUT INTO THE HEAVEN ITSELF, now to appear in the PRESENCE of ALEIM on our behalf,

These lids were specifically called CHaPaRaTs (H3727). CHaPaRaT means "lid-marked (with blood)". This is because the final letter named TA (ika tav) was a picture letter of two crossed sticks and meant "mark", "sign" or "signal"—and the High Priests had to MARK the CHaPaR (the word for a regular lid) of the Ark with blood.

IEUE appeared in a cloud above the Earthly CHaPaRaT (blood-marked lid), so the lid was an extremely set-apart space—it was very close to an Earthly manifestation of IEUE (He can have multiple visual manifestations, but IEUESHUO was NOT one of them) which was a portion of His presence which dwells on His Heavenly Throne.

Today IEUE's presence is mainly above the HEAVENLY Ark. The Earthly: Ark and Dwelling Place/Tabernacle, was only a copy and shadow (symbolic, a parable of) of what is in the space high up in the sky called Heaven (Heb 8:5 and 9:9): where IEUE, IEUESHUO (at IEUE's right hand—Heb 12:2) and the MaLaAKIM (ika angels) dwell.

Two of AERaN's sons were killed for facing the Earthly cloud manifestation of IEUE directly: so IEUE told MaSHE to tell AERaN not to go inbetween the Ark and the Veil around it:

TS98 [AH] UIQaRA (Lev) 16:2 And IEUE said to MaSHE [ika Moses], “Speak to AERaN your brother NOT TO COME in at all times to the Set-apart Place INSIDE THE VEIL, BEFORE THE LID OF ATONEMENT [CHaPaRaT] which is on the ark, LEST HE DIE, because I APPEAR IN THE CLOUD ABOVE THE LID OF ATONEMENT [CHaPaRaT].

Also AERaN was to burn incense to mask the cloud, in case he died by looking at it:

TS98 [AH] UIQaRA (Lev) 16:13 “And he shall put the incense on the fire before IEUE, and the CLOUD OF INCENSE SHALL COVER the LID of ATONEMENT which is on the Witness, LEST HE DIE.

Moreover a rope was tied around his legs so he could be pulled out should he die.

If he lived, he would go outside to the people and say the AERaNic blessing on them, and they would bow their heads and hearts in humility. However this, and ten times throughout the service, was NOT originally the only time in the year anyone would invoke the tetragrammaton (IEUE). THIS NAME IS NOT USUALLY INUTTERABLE! We are commanded in a plethora of verses to use His Name on a regular and intimate (but of course respectful) basis—otherwise we would be bringing IEUE' Name to NAUGHT (breaking the commandment, which is what many IEUDIM [Jews] have done and continue to do!). Exchanging names are a the first thing people do to start a relationship! To some the early Rabbinic Mishnah's description of what happened in the service in the Second Temple implies that the "explicit name" was only mentioned once a year to the people—but this is a lie.

Mishnah, Yoma 6:2 "The multitudes would stand in the courtyard and when they heard the explicit name coming out of the mouth of the high priest they used to kneel and prostrate, fall on their faces, and say, 'Blessed is the glorious name of his kingdom forever.'"

HOWEVER, the Earthly top-coverings of blood annually (Lev 16:34) made by the High Priests before IEUESHUO DID NOT TAKE AWAY (FORGIVE and FORGET—Heb 8:12 and 10:17) the sins of the High Priests and nation—nor SAVE them (Heb 7:25)—it merely reminded them of their sin and their future forgiveness for it through the blood of the coming MaSHICH:

TS98 OBaRIM (Heb) 10:3—4
3 But in those offerings is a REMINDER of SINS year by year.
4 For IT IS IMPOSSIBLE for BLOOD of BULLS and GOATS TO TAKE AWAY SINS.

TS98 1 Corinthians 15:46 The SPIRITUAL [IEUESHUO's top-covering], however, WAS NOT FIRST, but the NATURAL [AERaNic top-covering], and afterward the spiritual.

The scapegoat led out to die outside the walls of the city only SYMBOLISED their sins being taken away.

Only IEUESHUO's better blood was able to ATONE (enable IEUE to forgive) repentant sinners, and make them AT-ONE, AT-PEACE, reconciled or "propitiated" with IEUE. OBaRIM (ika Hebrews) chapters nine and 10 make a very clear point of this: they are well worth reading at this point.

When we are at "one" with IEUE we are "at one" (in accordance) with His will and PURPOSE. IEUESHUO was at one with IEUE also. When He said "I and My Father are one" he meant "I and My Father have ONE PURPOSE". We are not the same being as IEUE, just as IEUESHUO was not the same being as IEUE. IEUESHUO was 100% man and 0% ALEIM (ika God). For more evidence see the article called Understanding John 10:30by BiblicalUnitarian.com:

This was so He could make COMPASSIONATE ATONEMENT for the sins of the people. Even though IEUESHUO never sinned, he was tempted in all ways just as we are. When He made atonement he was REMINDED of THESE TEMPTATIONS (personally negative effects of sin), just as the AERaNic High Priests were reminded of THEIR sin when they made their animal blood CHaPaRIM (top-coverings for sin).

TS98 [AH] OBaRIM (Heb) 2:17
So IN EVERY WAY HE HAD TO BE MADE LIKE HIS BROTHERS, in order to become a compassionate and trustworthy HIGH PRIEST in matters related to ALEIM, to make ATONEMENT for the SINS of the PEOPLE.

TS98 [AH] OBaRIM (Heb) 4:15 For we do not have a HIGH PRIEST unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but ONE WHO WAS TRIED IN ALL RESPECTS AS WE ARE, apart from sin.

(For a lot more evidence that IEUESHUO was not ALEIM (ika God) see the Hebrew Unitarian Group.)

Also through IEUESHUO's non-animal (not like EBaL's [ika Abel's]) sacrifice IEUE's people can face IEUE's presence (throne) without the risk of dying like the High Priests:

TS98 [AH] OBaRIM (Heb) 4:16
Therefore, LET US COME BOLDLY TO THE THRONE OF FAVOUR, in order to receive compassion, and find favour for timely help.

TS98 [AH] OBaRIM (Heb) 7:25 Therefore He [IEUESHUO, verse 22] is also able to SAVE [with IEUE's authorisation] completely THOSE WHO DRAW NEAR TO ALEIM THROUGH HIM [by believing in and using His Name], ever living to make intercession for them.

TS98 [AH] OBaRIM (Heb) 9:24 For MaSHICH HAS NOT ENTERED INTO A SET APART PLACE MADE BY HAND – figures of the true – but INTO THE HEAVEN ITSELF, now to appear in the PRESENCE of ALEIM on our behalf,

TS98 [AH] OBaRIM (Heb) 12:22—24
22 But YOU HAVE DRAWN NEAR to MOUNT TSIUN [Zion] and to the CITY OF THE LIVING ALEIM, to the HEAVENLY IRUSHaLIM [Jerusalem], to MYRIADS of MESSENGERS [angels],
23 to the entire gathering and assembly of the first-born HAVING BEEN ENROLLED IN HEAVEN, AND TO ALEIM THE JUDGE OF ALL, and to the spirits of righteous men made perfect,
24 and to IEUESHUO the Mediator of a new covenant, and to the BLOOD of SPRINKLING which SPEAKS BETTER than the [animal] BLOOD of EBaL [Abel].

IEUESHUO died on our behalf. He was sentenced to death in the temple by the High Priest who said, prophetically, that it was good that one man should die for the nation. He was led outside the walls (like the scapegoat—Heb 13:12) to bear the punishment for sins of the people.

He has gone ahead of His people, behind the veil, and has FACED IEUE's PRESENCE above the MOST most SET-APART Heavenly CHaPaRaT (Ark's lid)—in HEAVEN directly:

TS98 [AH] OBaRIM (Heb) 6:19—20
19 which we have as an anchor of the life, both safe and firm, and ENTERING INTO THAT WITHIN THE VEIL,
20 WHERE IEUESHUO HAS ENTERED entered AS A FORERUNNER FOR US, having become HIGH PRIEST forever according to the order of MaLaKI TSaDaQ [Melchizedek].

When IEUE's people receive the portion of His Spirit by obeying the Good News / NEW or SECOND (NOT renewed—Heb 7:12, 8:13 and 10:9) COVENANT, part of IEUE dwells inside of them (in their foreheads [Pre Frontal Cortexes]). This is why the saints are called the Dwelling Place of ALEIM (ika God), and hence are to look after their bodies—and why IEUE said He would write His laws on their MINDS:

TS98 [AH] 1 Corinthians 3:16—17
16 Do you not know that you are a DWELLING PLACE of ALEIM and that the Spirit of ALEIM DWELLS IN YOU?
17 If anyone destroys the Dwelling Place of ALEIM, ALEIM shall destroy him. For the Dwelling Place of ALEIM is set-apart, which you are.

YLT [AH] OBaRIM (Heb) 8:8—10
8 For finding fault, He saith to them, 'LO, DAYS COME, saith IEUE, and I will complete with the house of ISHaRaAL, and with the house of IEUDE, a NEW COVENANT,
9 NOT according to the covenant that I made with their fathers, in the day of My taking them by their hand, to bring them out of the land of Egypt-because they did not remain in My covenant, and I did not regard them, saith IEUE,-
10 because THIS IS THE COVENANT THAT I WILL MAKE with the house of ISHaRAL, after those days, saith IEUE, GIVING MY LAWS INTO THEIR MIND, and UPON THEIR HEARTS I WILL WRITE THEM, and I will be to them for an ALEIM, and they shall be to Me for a people;

YLT [AH] OBaRIM (Heb) 10:16 'THIS IS THE COVENANT that I will make with them after those days, saith IEUE, GIVING MY LAWS on their hearts, and UPON THEIR MINDS I will write them,'

IEUESHUO is able to atone a believer's sins—to clear their wrongdoing because he stood in for them where they deserved to be punished.

To atone in English means:
1. To make reparation, compensation, or amends, for an offence or a crime one has committed.
2. (proscribed) To clear (someone else) of wrongdoing, especially by standing as an equivalent.

The Concordant Literal Version defines CHaPaR (our "top-covering for sin", H3722) as a "propitiatory shelter".

Propitiatory means "intended to propitiate, reconcile, expiate or appease; conciliatory". To propitiate means, "To conciliate, appease or make peace with someone."

To reconcile means:
1. To recreate friendly relationships.
2. To make things compatible or consistent.
3. To make the net difference in credits and debits of a financial account agree with the balance.

To expiate means:
1. To atone or make reparation for.
2. To make amends or pay the penalty for.
3. To relieve or cleanse of guilt.

To appease means to:
1. To make quiet; to calm; to reduce to a state of peace; to dispel (anger or hatred).
to appease the tumult of the ocean
to appease hunger or thirst
2. To come to terms with; to adapt to the demands of.
They appeased the angry gods with burnt offerings.

Concilatory means "willing to conciliate, or to make concessions".
To conciliate means to:
1. Make calm and content; placate.
2. Mediate in a dispute.

The "cleansing" of the nation of ISHaRaAL in UIQaRA (Lev) 23:30 from the High Priest's (natural) top-covering [not spiritual atonement] (Lev 16:30, 32—34) of blood was only referrring to the improved behaviour in the subsequent days of the ISHaRaALites after they had increased awareness of their sins by humbling themselves and observing the High Priest's complex rituals on IUM CHaPaRIM—it was not outright forgiveness and erasing of their punishment due for their sins (at-peace-ment) with IEUE: only IEUESHUO was able to help give them that:

AV [AH] UIQaRA (Lev) 16:30 For on that day shall [the priest] make an atonement for you, to CLEANSE you, [that] ye may be CLEAN from all your sins before IEUE.

Again, the scapegoat only SYMBOLISED their sins being taken away.

People who practise (MaSHICH-rejecting) Judaism and still want to place an AERaNic priest near an Ark throw insult at IEUESHUO's suffering for them. They will have severe punishment:

TS98 [AH] OBaRIM (Heb) 10:29 How much WORSE PUNISHMENT do you think shall he deserve who has TRAMPLED the SON of ALEIM UNDERFOOT, COUNTED THE BLOOD of the COVENANT by which HE WAS SET APART AS COMMON, and insulted the Spirit of favour?

The White Throne Judgement Will be on One Future IUM CHaPaRIM

What to Do on IUM CHaPaRIM (in Our Generation)

1) Rest.

We are to cease from exerting ourselves on IUM CHaPaRIM:

CLV [AH] UIQaRA (Lev) 16:29 It will come to be for you as an eonian statute: in the seventh month on the tenth of the month you shall humble your souls, and NO WORK AT ALL SHALL YOU DO, the native or the sojourner sojourning in your midst.

CLV [AH] UIQaRA (Lev) 16:31 It is a SHaBaT of CESSATION FOR YOU, and you will humble your souls; it is an eonian statute.

CLV [AH] UIQaRA (Lev) 23:28 YOU SHALL DO NO WORK AT ALL on this very day, for it the day of propitiatory shelters so as to make a propitiatory shelter over you before IEUE your ALEI.

CLV [AH] UIQaRA (Lev) 23:30 And every soul WHO DOES ANY WORK on this very day, I WILL DESTROY that soul from among his people.

CLV [AH] UIQaRA (Lev) 23:31 You shall DO NO WORK AT ALL. It is an eonian statute throughout your generations in all your dwellings.

CLV [AH] UIQaRA (Lev) 23:32 It is a SHaBaT of CESSATION TO YOU, and you will humble your souls. On the ninth day of the month in the evening, from evening until evening shall you cease for your sabbath.

Note the second sentence of this verse (23:32) has most likely been inserted/perverted. For a large amount of evidence for this see the article Day of Atonement Starts at Sunrise.

CLV [AH] BaMaDaBaR (Num) 29:7 On the tenth of this seventh month you shall come to have a holy meeting, and you will humble your souls; you shall DO NO WORK AT ALL.

2) Humble our entire beings/souls (minds, wills AND emotions—not just appetites).

We are to humble our beings/souls on IUM CHaPaRIM. This means we are to solemnly WATCH and CONCENTRATE so much on our MIND, WILL and EMOTIONS (not just appetites for food) so that they are as righteous as possiblethat we get LINES IN OUR FOREHEADS (FROWN-LINES).

CLV [AH] UIQaRA (Lev) 16:29 It will come to be for you as an eonian statute: in the seventh month on
the tenth of the month YOU SHALL HUMBLE [T-ON-U, H6031] your SOULS [NaPaSHaTI, H5315], and no work at all shall you do, the native or the sojourner sojourning in your midst.

CLV [AH] UIQaRA (Lev) 16:31 It is a SHaBaT of cessation for you, and YOU WILL HUMBLE [ONITaM, H6031] your SOULS [NaPaSHaTI, H5315]; it is an eonian statute.

CLV [AH] UIQaRA (Lev) 23:27 Then on the tenth of this seventh month, it is the day of propitiatory shelters. It shall be a holy meeting for you, and YOU WILL HUMBLE [ONITaM, H6031] your SOULS [NaPaSHaTI, H5315] and bring near a fire offering to IEUE.

CLV [AH] UIQaRA (Lev) 23:29 For every SOUL [NaPaSH, H5315] WHO IS NOT HUMBLED [T-ON-E, H6031] on this very day WILL BE CUT OFF from his kinsmen.

CLV [AH] UIQaRA (Lev) 23:32 It is a SHaBaT of cessation to you, and YOU WILL HUMBLE [ONITaM, H6031] your SOULS [NaPaSHaTI, H5315]. On the ninth day of the month in the evening, from evening until evening shall you cease for your sabbath.

Note again, the second sentence of this verse (23:32) has most likely been inserted/perverted. For a large amount of evidence for this see the article Day of Atonement Starts at Sunrise.

CLV [AH] BaMaDaBaR (Num) 29:7 On the tenth of this seventh month you shall come to have a holy meeting, and YOU WILL HUMBLE [ONITaM, H6031] your SOULS [NaPaSHaTI, H5315]; you shall do no work at all.

ONITaM [oh-neeh-tam] Means "You Will Form a Furrow/Rut Between the Eyes While Watching Intensely"

The Ancient Hebrew phrases above for: 1) "you shall humble" "TONU" [toh-nooh], 2) "you will humble" “ONITaM” [oh-neeh-tam] and, 3) "humbled" "TONE" [toh-neh]—were all referenced by Strong as H6031.

These phrases come from the Child (three-letter) Root word "ONE" [oh-neh] (with the letters named ON-NaN-EA, equivalent to the Modern Jewish Hebrew ayin-nun-he), which means, “form a furrow/rut between the eyes while watching intensely”— according to the Ancient Hebrew Lexicon of the Bible (AHLB#: 1359):

ONE: "ac: Afflict co: Depression ab: ?: A furrow depression is formed between the eyes when watching intensely. The furrow may also be formed by concentration or depression. [Hebrew and Aramaic] [freq. 85] (vf: Paal, Niphal, Hiphil, Hitpael, Pual, Piel) |kjv: afflict, humble, force, exercise, sing| {str: 6031, 6033}"

The Child Root ONE [oh-neh] in turn comes from the Parent (two-letter) Root word ON [on] which in this case (the functional action sense) means "watch".

ON: "ac: Watch co: Eye ab: Affliction: The pictograph...[ON]...is a picture of the eye, the... [NaN]...is a picture of a seed representing continuance. Combined these mean "eye of continuance". The nomadic agriculturist carefully watches over his livestock and crops by keeping a close eye on them. It was common to construct a shelter consisting of a roof on four posts, as a shelter from the glare of the sun. (eng: eye - with the removal of the n).

NaPaSHaTI Means "souls of"—not just "appetites of"

NaPaSH (H5315) means "soul" according to the AHLB (#2424 [N])—not just appetite as Karaite Korner suggests. This is because a soul/being does not just hunger after food, but for other things (like sex, for example)—but at the other extreme—every word that proceeds out of the mouth of ALEIM! When we fast we humble our physical appetite for food, but we are not humbling our spiritual appetite—which comes from our beings also. Our souls are our mind, will AND emotions that can crave a range of good and evil things: not just our physical hunger for food (appetite). If we were only meant to suppress our appetite for food the Ancient Hebrew word for fast "TSUM" [tsoom] would plainly have been used instead of NaPaSHaTI in all the verses above—but it is not.

Humbling our beings is best done by:

a) Fasting. Although the Ancient Hebrew word for "fast" TSUM [tsoom] (H6684) is not in the verses that command us to humble our beings for IUM CHaPaRIM, fasting is associated with humbling beings in other verses. This is because fasting from both food and water (AXaTaR [ika Est] 4:16) helps us become more in tune with our thoughts and emotions—and thus watch, monitor and reflect on our own behaviour:

TS98 [AH] AXaTaR (Est) 4:16 “Go, gather all the IEUDIM (Jews) who are present in SHUSHaN, and FAST for me, and do not eat or drink for three days, night or day. I too, and my young women shall fast in the same way, then I shall go to the sovereign, which is against the law. And if I shall perish, I shall perish!”

TS98 TEILIM (Psa) 35:13 But I, when they were sick, I put on sackcloth; I HUMBLED MY BEING with FASTINGS; And my prayer would return to my own bosom.

AV TEILIM (Psa) 69:10 When I wept, [and CHASTENED] MY SOUL with FASTING, that was to my reproach.

CLV ISHOIEU (Isa) 58:3 "Why do we FAST, yet You do not see? WE HUMBLE OUR SOULS, yet You are not knowing?" "Behold! In the day of your FAST you are finding delight, and all your grievous labors are you exacting of others.

CLV [AH] ISHOIEU (Isa) 58:5 As this is becoming a FAST, am I choosing it? A day for a human to HUMBLE HIS SOUL, to bend, as a rush, his head, and in sackcloth and ashes be berthing? Is this what you are calling a FAST and a day acceptable to IEUE?

CLV ISHOIEU (Isa) 58:10 and promote for the FAMISHING the BREAD FOR YOUR SOUL, and the HUMBLED SOUL shall you satisfy. Then radiant will be your light in the darkness, and your gloom as the noon.

The whole of ISHOIEU (Isa) 58 describes an acceptable fast day. Fasting must accompany humbling one's mind will and emotions under IEUE's command, including being charitable to the poor amd hungry as far as possible.

Fasting can be a bit difficult for some during the day if they have very physical jobs, so that is partly why we are also commanded to rest on this day.

It is good for sick and young people (children) to fast, especially for short periods like on IUM CHaPaRIM if they are not used to it. The Braggs have written an excellent (Christian) book called The Miracle of Fasting. Also this study called Fasting Children says its good for diseased children to fast, which means it is good for healthy ones too.

The Ancient Hebrews did not eat at night. They stopped eating in the late afternoon and resumed in the morning—they did not eat during the 12 hours of darkness (LILE). So the fast of IUM CHaPaRIM should go at least from the late afternoon on the ninth day of the seventh month to the morning of the 11th day of the seventh month—at least 36 hours. Note: this does not explain the ORaB (afternoon) start of IUM CHaPaRIM in UIQaRA (Lev) 23:32 because that verse says that the SHaBaT ends in the afternoon and fasts are broken in the morning (thus why we have the word "break-fast").

b) Confessing our sins—to IEUE and one to another.

c) Repenting—dying to self, even to tears (Psa 69:10, Joe 2:12—14, and Est 9:31), putting on sackcloth and/or ashes on the head (a sign or mourning) (Dan 9:3 and Neh 9:1), or removing your shoes (also a sign of mourning) (Eze 24:17).

Repentance for the believer in IEUESHUO MaSHICH is a daily occurence; just because one repents on IUM CHaPaRIM it does not mean that their name is written in the Book of Life for another year! They have no cushy (easy) time like that. Apostle SHAUL (ika Paul) says that he died daily (1Co 15:31).

d) Making amends with others.

e) Forgiving others.

f) Meditating in respect and awe on IEUE's: justice, previous just judgements (for both good and evil acts), forgiveness through IEUESHUO MaSHICH's atoning blood, and future judgement (involving both rewards and punishment/vengeance) on this day on His White Throne in one coming year.

g) Thanking IEUE and IEUESHUO for the forgiveness available through obeying the Good News / New Covenant of IEUESHUO MaSHICH—which allows us to have a portion of IEUE's Spirit dwell inside our foreheads.

3) Gather with those of a like mind:

TS98 [AH] UIQaRA (Lev) 23:27 “On the tenth day of this seventh month is the Day of Atonement. It shall be a SET-APART GATHERING for you. And you shall afflict your beings, and shall bring an offering made by fire to IEUE.

CLV [AH] BaMaDaBaR (Num) 29:7 On the tenth of this seventh month you shall come to HAVE A HOLY MEETING, and you will humble your souls; you shall do no work at all.
