Book Review - Ancient Hebrew Lexicon of the Bible

Last updated Apr 7, 2012.

The Ancient Hebrew Lexicon of the Bible (AHLB) by Jeff Benner at the Ancient Hebrew Research Center, contains the pictographic meaning of many scripTURal Hebrew words, roots and letters. It comes in hard cover, free e-book - or you can download the AHLB for FREE as an e-sword module. Download e-sword.

This book may well be one of the greatest books in existence today, because it reveals so much about the pictographic meanings of ancient Hebrew letters. Thus it can help us unlock the pronunciation of the Name "IEUE".

However, a there are a few major flaws it has -

1) It Has No Entry for the Tetragrammaton - Strongs H3068 (!)

Most importantly it excludes, a definition of the tetragrammaton! Not even the first two letters of it "IE". It appears Jeff has been reluctant to attempt this translation for a particular reason. I do not know why.

This is also the case in his book "His Name is One" where Jeff analyses many titles (El Shaddai, Adonai, etc), but does not attempt to translate yod-heh-vav-heh with the same method. Instead in his "Yahweh" chapter he strangely analyses the word "ACHaD" (H259) (or ehad in modern hebrew).

2) It Has No Entry for the Son's Name - Strongs H3091 (!)

Again somehow Benner excludes a definition of the six letter (likely to be shortened from the seven letter IEUESHUO) Hebrew name IEUSHUO (Jewish: Yehoshua) found in the oldest Massoritic Westminster Leningrad Codex writings of scripture including TURE (Torah) in Deuteronomy 3:21 and in Judges 2:7.

Strong's H3091
יהושׁע יהושׁוּע
yehôshûa‛ yehôshûa‛
yeh-ho-shoo'-ah, yeh-ho-shoo'-ah
From H3068 and H3467; Jehovah-saved; Jehoshua (that is, Joshua), the Jewish leader: - Jehoshua, Jehoshuah, Joshua. Compare H1954, H3442.

3) It has Letters and Letter Names with Wrong or Several Pronunciations

Benner has a preference for leaning on Modern Jewish Hebrew in his estimate of the ancient Hebrew pronunciation of each ancient Hebrew letter, and the pronunciation of the names of each letter. My Ancient Hebrew Alphabet Chart is therefore slightly different to his Alphabet Chart.

He does not have a large enough grasp of the identity of the lost tribes of ISHaRaAL ISHaRaAL. Thus he has a lot more trust in the reliability of the IEUDIM (Jews) to preserve ancient Hebrew pronunciation, and underestimates the verses of scripTURE that indicate how falsely their scribes' pen has worked. The IEUDIM were "entrusted with the oracles of IEUE", but the degree to which they honoured that trust, especially the conservation of the pronunciation of ancient Hebrew is debatable. For hundreds of years the scribes (as indicated from the Talmud) have said that Sacred Name is unspeakable, and that anyone who uses it has no place in heaven. Also many of them have still yet to accept the MaSHICH came the first time and are still pedestalling their Rabbis, Mishnah and Talmud. Many of us, like Benner, in our attempt to be zealous for ISHaRaAL, have incorrectly overly embraced the traditions of the IEUDIM.

Still, I would place this book in my top ten: overall rating 9/10.
