In ancient times writing materials like clay, leather, papyrus etc were scarce. They did not have the luxurious resources that we have today. Ancient Hebrew people never wasted letters: which is why they wrote two consonants together. They used the default "a" principle: meaning they voiced an [ah] sound between any two consonants. Ancient Hebrew is like SMS language/text talk on mobile phones [more in preparation].
